April Net Worth Update

AJ | May 4, 2008 | 7:03 am

NetWorthIQ is showing that my current net worth for the month of April has decreased dramatically. I finally have to total amount due for my student loans which works against my net worth. For the month of April I started automatically investing $20 bi-monthly into my brokerage account. So my assets went up for the month slightly, however, my liabilities went up by approximately $25,0000. My current net worth is now ($48,499).

Credit Freeze vs Fraud Alerts

AJ | April 11, 2008 | 3:48 pm

I was contemplating getting a credit freeze put on my account. In the state of Georgia, credit freezes are available for free if you have been a victim of identity theft. But for non-victims of ID theft then it is only $10 per bureau. The total freeze from all bureaus will be $30. However, to unfreeze your credit it is also $10 per bureau.

I also considered putting fraud alerts on with all three bureaus. Fraud alerts are free but the only last for 90 days each. I would have to call all three bureaus every 90th day to keep this going. I just need to weigh between cost versus convenience.

Credit Score Update

AJ | April 10, 2008 | 8:28 pm

Today my credit score jumped 10 points again. Now my Equifax score is 724. So on of my initial goals for 2008 has been reached for 1 bureau. So now I just have to keep working diligently to make sure that Experian and TransUnion is also in the same range. As soon as they get in the same range I am thinking of doing a credit freeze or a fraud alerts. That decision will come later. This new score has moved me up into the second tier bracket for credit for mortgages and home equity loans. The key is to now maintain and improve on my scores.

March Net Worth Update

AJ | March 27, 2008 | 10:44 am

I was able to raise my assets for the month, however, I also increase my liabilities. I managed to trade in my truck and get a more economical gas sipper. So I now have a 2008 Toyota Corolla. So my new net worth is ($24,117).
