Credit Freeze vs Fraud Alerts
AJ | April 11, 2008 | 3:48 pmI was contemplating getting a credit freeze put on my account. In the state of Georgia, credit freezes are available for free if you have been a victim of identity theft. But for non-victims of ID theft then it is only $10 per bureau. The total freeze from all bureaus will be $30. However, to unfreeze your credit it is also $10 per bureau.
I also considered putting fraud alerts on with all three bureaus. Fraud alerts are free but the only last for 90 days each. I would have to call all three bureaus every 90th day to keep this going. I just need to weigh between cost versus convenience.
